Wak A Fat Kat!
The idea that we have started with is an app, its an interactive game that plays on the fat cat idiom that was a central theme in the brief. The app has a short intro, it will be a video of us interviewing a store and asking if the points we've earnt can be given to poverty, there will then be a montage of the confused expressions that we get from the staff with some comical music. The final expression will morph into a fat cat cartoon and the game will start. To begin with you can choose from a list of shops, Tescos, Sainsburys etc.
Then once you've picked there will be a fat cat behind a counter and a variety of comical weapons that you can use against the fat cat. The cat will be dressed in uniform (depending on the shop you choose) and given human qualities.
There will be a time limit (perhaps 10 seconds, we haven't worked out exactly how long yet) in this time limit you get to wack the fat cat with different weapons, these will be silly and fun, for example a little chihuhua, everytime you hit the cat you earn points. When the 10 seconds is over you're told how many points you've earnt and the app redirects to a website. The website keeps track of all the points that are being earnt and is live, so it updates everytime someone plays. There's a pile of coins and these drop, you'll see your points drop into the pile when the site pops up and the page will update. There's also table next to the overall points being earnt which shows how much money these points are worth in each store.
The Script:
Wak A Fat Kat
The logic of the game is based on answers given by store representatives when they are asked if loyalty points can be donated towards charity. Players will be required to ask the question at any major supermarket or department store.
"May I give those points towards x charity?"
As all answers are likely to be negative, players can then direct themselves to the game site where they will be welcomed by an introductory video of recorded negative answers throughout the various stores. They will be asked to pick the store that denied the choice of donating and will then be prompted to fill in their name and the answer received as well as picking genders for their animated character.
This brings the players to the live game. The background, theme and outfit of the villain will be determined by the the store picked previously. The villain is a "fat cat" (with more human characteristics to avoid animal cruelty concerns). There fat cats will portray the large corporations that they ought to represent through obnoxious outfits and accessories.
The animation will show a conversation between the fat cat and the customer where the question of the donating points will come up and the player will be given to choice to answer yes, or the answer they provided earlier in the game.
If yes, the cat will handover the points receipt and the a message will appear telling the player these points have now gone towards charity.
If the negative answer is selected however, the cat will eat the points receipt and a set of weapons and tools will activate on the screen. The player then has 10 seconds to use these and copiously beat that cat to spit out the points. If successful, the game will indicate these have now gone to charity. It will give the option to use any of the social media channels to share the image of the defeated cat with an automated message that will read: " I was told ___________ at the ___________ in oxford street, so I showed him a lesson"
Players will also be able to see the won points pilled up in a separate site to show the ever increasing wasted points as they build from the game thereafter with a side vault and the different cash values of the total points for each of the stores.
